What VinScan is
VinScan is a non-commercial tool for internal testing and use. It has no prices and takes no payments. It may change, be limited or stop at any time.
Data from public sources, not a guarantee
Reports combine data from public sources such as NHTSA, Transport Canada, the US EPA and Traficom. That data can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Recalls and complaints apply to a model, not to one vehicle, and models shown for EU-market cars are statistical estimates marked as probable.
A VinScan report is not a title, accident, theft or odometer guarantee. Before you buy a vehicle, have it inspected by a qualified mechanic and check its documents and the official registers.
Official sites
Some checks are links to official sites. You perform those checks yourself, and the terms of those sites apply. VinScan is not responsible for their content or availability.
Acceptable use
Use VinScan for checks of vehicles you have a genuine interest in. You must not:
- query VinScan in bulk or automatically — no scripts, scrapers or bots;
- get around quotas, rate limits or access controls, for example with several accounts or addresses;
- try to find out who owns a vehicle or link VINs to people;
- resell or republish reports or source data in bulk;
- attack, overload or probe the service.
We may limit or suspend access that breaks these rules.
Accounts and plans
Keep your sign-in details to yourself; an account is for one person. Plans and their quotas are assigned by an administrator and may change.
Liability
VinScan is provided as it is, without warranties. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for decisions you make based on a report.
